Supply changes in Mechanical Engineering become more stable
The 5th VDMA flash survey shows that almost all machine manufacturers are suffering from the economic consequences of the corona pandemic. But there are also rays of hope.
"Abolish solidarity tax and keep public charges stable!"
The complete abolition of the solidarity tax would be good news. In addition, there must not be any further increases of public charges.
China and India send opposite signals in the Corona crisis
The corona pandemic has also affected important foreign markets, such as China, India and Brazil. China is sending out positive signals again, but the situation in India and Brazil is much worse.
Machinery exports suffer noticeably from the Corona pandemic
Machinery exports are increasingly affected by the Corona pandemic. In the first quarter of 2020, they shrank by 6.6 percent to 41.9 billion euros.
"Tougher rules for approval of investments sends the wrong signal".
The examination of foreign investments must not be tightened now. More state control damages the competitiveness of the medium-sized mechanical engineering industry.
"Relaxation measures must not stop at the borders"
Companies urgently need open borders in Europe again. Quarantine regulations must also be dropped.
Corona pandemic hits mechanical engineering across the board
Corona weighs heavily in the mechanical engineering sector: order losses and cancellations are becoming increasingly noticeable. The travel restrictions are also causing the companies major problems.
First signs of a storm
The corona pandemic reached the mechanical engineering industry at the end of the first quarter: in March 2020, order intake fell short of the previous year's level by 9 percent in real terms.
"Looseinig of corona restrictions is an important signal"
The Mechanical engineering industry supports the gradual loosening of the corona restrictions. It would now also be necessary to re-open borders in Europe and make sure that regulations within the EU are uniformly implied.
Corona must not lead to a wrong labour market policy
The number of short-time work notices in the mechanical engineering industry has risen to a record level. Now, labour market policy must not now put an unnecessary burden on companies and the social security system.
